• IBM releases Mid-Year Trend and Risk Report 2010

    IBM have released the X-Force 2010 Mid-Year Trend and Risk report which reveals several key trends in the first half of 2010, showing how hackers are using the internet to target their victims and steal data for personal and financial gain.

    The IBM X-Force Trend and Risk Report is a bi-annual report which provides statistical information of all different aspects of threats affecting internet security. These threats include software vulnerabilities, malware, phishing, web based threats, and trends in cybercrime. The report helps to educate the reader on the shift in the threat landscape.

    The 2010 Mid-Year Report highlights a number of interesting points including;

    • The number of new vulnerability disclosures in the first half of the year is at the highest level ever recorded
    • Web application vulnerabilities, particularly cross-site scripting and SQL injection continue to dominate the threat landscape
    • The number of web application vulnerabilities continues to rise at a rate of 3,000-4,000 disclosure a year
